DBZ Frieza Customs... These Shoes Are Villainous!

Updated: Aug 12, 2019

Being a hero may always feel good, but what about the villains man?... What about the villains? It’s gotta be more fun to walk in their shoes!

So Goku is out of the question, Piccolo has changed his ways, and Vegeta is somewhere in between. Lots of bad guys to choose from but I feel like there is only one savage still staying relevant at this point...

FFFRRRRRIIIIEEEEEZZZZZAAAA!!!!! (Trunks voice.) This is going to fun!

I gave up trying to become Super Sayain at the age of 6... maybe 12, 14.

So I think the best way to break down this custom is to go section by section on the sneaker and then show the completed piece all put together.

Which Sneaker?

Used... yep, USED Adidas Shell Toes. (Got em for $20 off ebay). The cool thing about custom sneakers is that sometimes you are able to turn old beat up shoes into rep-able pieces of art, and that’s exactly what I did here.

*Since these are used I had to do some deep cleaning with the best products in the business. I’ll link ReShoeven8r for you because I do notice a difference in their products and a good investment to keep your expensive shoes, hats, and bags lasting longer.

The Design All Around

To be honest the shell toe reminded me of Friezas’ head which is kind of what started this whole idea, so here we go. After lightly sketching the lines I mix up a few shades of purple for the contrast effect on baldys forehead. What the hell is it supposed to be anyway?!?! It sounds easy but to make the lines crisp on this bumpy texture I had to take my time and keep steady handed.

The momentum has started and I decided the next step is to represent the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd form Frieza by painting that pink skin color in between the Adidas stripes. So many years have passed since the Namek sagas, and seeing how you never see Frieza go back to his original form I had to pay homage to the beginning of this diabolical villain by adding some retro into this custom.

During the Namek arc just remember some of the most savage moments like Frieza (2nd form) stabbing through Krillins stomach with his horn, or when he fights Piccolo in his 3rd form and uses both hands to start lighting him up with death beams.... like 100 of them! That is why I thought it was important to put some early Frieza details into this sneaker.

Towards the back of the shoe I just kept picturing those evil red eyes that Clear Eyes just can't help. The angle of the pull tab slants similar to angry or evil eyes so I figured that would work perfect to give this sneaker more character, and I couldn't forget the iconic black lines down the cheek. For real what the hell are those supposed to be anyway?!?!

Now that these eyes are painted on, I picture that cocky smirk Frieza has whenever he's on top and ready to raise hell. These customs are looking both seductive and destructive now!

While I'm back here that Adidas logo needs some evil spirit. The stripes in the logo resemble one of my favorite attacks he has, DEATH BEAM! Right through the middle!

I always think about the Death Beam when I picture Frieza. I mean homeboy just sits back, smirks, then unloads laser beams while evil laughing. Remember when he shot one behind his back and took out a sniper with his damn thumb in the Broly movie?! Even Cell appreciated this move enough to use it in his arsenal, yeah I had to find a spot for that on this custom.

It is a goal to come up with ideas and details that are not expected, that being said I keep combing for things to add. The more I looked the more I felt the bottom of the sneaker resembled the armor Frieza wears in his first form, so just when everyone thinks they see all the details on your sneaker you lift your foot and BAM! You are still showing off!

*Keep scrolling because I'm about to vent real quick and say that prepping and painting this part of the shoe was a very long patient process. Even mixing/matching the color took a A LOT of fine tuning. I don't know how well this will hold up BUT I am happy with how the sole turned out.

In the show his armor is never really used or tested, because he takes it off and starts transforming once things start heating up. But I think he is the original hype beast behind these armor drops that caught on pretty heavy early on in the show.

Okay, enough of all the old Frieza references... the past is the past and the future is now right? After just 4 months of training Frieza makes a breakthrough and achieves something that just about all of us want... ALL GOLD EVERYTHANG! His golden form, this is the strongest and most bad ass form he has achieved to date. I can't leave that out of this sneaker, plus you got to have something on this shoe to show you are up to date on Dragon Ball Z.

A gold Adidas tab as well as some lettering to represent when Frieza is resurrected and attempts his comeback on Earth. After 4 months of training Frieza made up for a lot of lost time and his power caught up to both Goku and Vegetas Super Saiyan Blue level. He fell just short in the end because his body wasn't used to handling that much energy yet and he fatigued just short of victory.

Our villain is defeated a couple of times in the series, and for those who haven't seen much of Dragon Ball Super I'll tell you that he is sent too hell. While living in hell Frieza is shown stuck in a cocoon hanging from a tree with angels and teddy bears singing songs and marching all around him... Not the typical demons and flames you would picture your hell to have. This is torture to our cold-hearted outlaw.

I think that scenario is funny as s*** and I just so happened to find a key chain on Amazon to tie the whole sneaker together.

Dragon Ball Z has had many evil villains and many powerful fighters. It is hard to pick an absolute favorite hero, villain, or saga. This custom features Frieza because the more I thought about it the more I realize he keeps coming back and he definitely keeps things interesting. Flinging Krillin into the air and blowing him up like he was shooting skeet, or killing his whole army when he came to blow up the Earth... savage life.

*Note I assumed it was settled that Frieza is a male so please don't be offended if I am wrong.

This was a really fun custom to do and it reminded me a lot of coming home from school and waiting for the next episode to come out (pre-streaming days).

I want to know some of your favorite Frieza or DBZ moments below, also share ideas you would have put into this custom!

I really am aiming to be unique with custom ideas, break down fun and easy DIY projects, and help influence/ collab with any other artists or sneaker heads. I have lots of ideas but this Blog is ultimately to entertain you! That being said feel free to comment or email me ideas and things you would like to see!
